The Choice to Run for Carroll County Sheriff

Over the course of my campaign, I have been asked several times about why I chose to run for Carroll County Sheriff.

First and foremost, I want to give back to the Carroll County community. I have made my home here and raised my children in Carroll County. I believe that the people of this community deserve a sheriff that is present. A sheriff that will listen to their concerns and work hard to address them. My priority has been and will always be community involvement. By creating and maintaining a trusting relationship with the public, we can create a safer community for all.

The current administration has become complacent. Several people have shared their stories about how the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has fallen short when it comes to crimes against them.

As an example, I became aware by first-hand experience that identity theft cases do not seem to be a priority for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. When bills for accounts that they never opened begin arriving in the mail, they reach out to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. When they call, the officer takes minimal information, and not enough information to complete an investigation. After several follow-up calls from the citizen, no progress is made. In some instances, complainants are informed that the company involved refused to share information. This allows the person committing the identity theft to simply move on to the next victim, while victims must go through the process of freezing their accounts and locking their credit so no further theft can occur. I have heard this same account several times through the course of my campaign from several people that I have spoken to. I have handled such cases in the Baltimore County Police Department and know for a fact that more can be done to solve and deter these crimes.

As sheriff, I look forward to working with other community leaders to solve problems facing our community. However, I am looking forward to speaking with citizens of Carroll County. I’m aware of the issues that our county faces, but I want to hear what is important to you. I will show up, every day, ready to work to ensure the safety and security of each person in our community.

The citizens of Carroll County deserve better. I have been part of this community for over 40 years and want to give back. I have seen the changes in this county and want to see what makes Carroll County great is preserved. However, it is necessary to acknowledge that the world is moving forward, and those in leadership roles need to make sure that we are keeping pace.
